Dr. Rick Jones Scholarship
To honor the memory of Dr. James R. Jones III, Indiana’s second State Archaeologist, the Indiana Archaeology Council has established the Dr. Rick Jones Scholarship. Dr. Jones was a mentor to many students (through his teaching college courses in archaeology) as well as archaeologists he worked with at the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology and Weintraut & Associates, Inc. This scholarship recognizes Rick’s commitment to the importance of mentoring in Indiana archaeology as well as the value in specialized training outside of fieldwork.
Eligible applicants are current college students studying anthropology/archaeology in Indiana. Eligible types of activities include:
- Attending a non-fieldschool training opportunity. Examples could include: NAGPRA training, specialized technical training (e.g., photogrammetry; National Park Service geophysical technology training), Section 106 training.
- Attending a relevant archaeology/anthropology conference.
